There are various coping strategies which people employ to deal with difficult emotions (anger, anxiety etc..) such as drink, drugs or food. However, more often than not they are just umbing in their effect at the time, and more like destructive self-sabotage in the longer term. Emotions are temporary: so, in this episode Adam Cox uses the technique of 'pattern interrupt' to help with developing an alternative approach to dealing with those difficult times.

Too much alcohol can lead to health problems, weight problems, and sometimes doing or saying things you might regret. This episode is about significantly reducing, but not eliminating, alcohol consumption by the effective use of alcohol-free drinks — perhaps interwoven with some alcoholic ones. Doing things differently in this way can lead to a clearer head and more focus: definitely worth giving it a try.

Adam Cox draws a link back to the Paleolithic period, going back 15,000 — 20,000 years when humans had to be hunter-gatherers in order to eat. Here's an intriguing episode — following the medical resolution of a client's serious brain aneurism, Adam Cox seeks to help someone experiencing recurrent side effects of spells of dizziness: albeit very temporary in contrast to their original problem. He seeks to reframe these experiences by positioning them as cheeky rascals, more playful than destructive, in order to limit their ability to disrupt life going forward.

Last week we tackled emotional drinking; this week it's the turn of emotional eating. This is when you're not hungry or in need of nutrition, but you're just coping with stress or anxiety by constantly nibbling away at certain foods which 'make you feel safe'. However these are often processed foods which are anything but safe in the long run. The episode seeks to help with a 'reframe' in order to give up mindless snacking.
