He started his career with British Airways pension fund in the mid 1970s, before founding Bestinvest in the late 1980s. He sold Bestinvest in 2007, then set up the Spiers Family Foundation. He later took over EQ Investors and now runs that, and the relatively new EQ Foundation.

The Government's recent green paper on industrial strategy showed that more technical education is needed to boost diversity in the sector. Last week, financial advisory firm KPMG launched IT's Her Future, a campaign aimed at encouraging more women to consider a career in technology.
