James Cameron-Wilson examines the UK box offie, down 40% on the week. With Ant-Man 3 still #1, the much-anticipated Cocaine Bear enters at #3. Stomach-churningly violent and unsubtle, James's verdict is, "Great trailer, shame about the movie". Romcom What's Love Got To Do With It, written by Jemima Khan and starring Lily James and Shazad Latif, is #4 and James and Simon both recommend it. It's romantic, funny and even educational. South Korean Broker is #8. On Apple TV is Sharper, with Julianne Moore in a con artist film that is entertaining but also too clever for its own good.

Putin's two-hour monologue in Moscow last week sought to justify his assault on Ukraine with a raft of dogma, including a presumption of divine male headship — hardly the basis for economic and social justice for all. Elitist theories, whether based on gender, race or nationality, have no place in an egalitarian, peaceful world: it is men, not women, who start wars and fill the prisons. Likewise, Churches should not allow themselves to be drawn into defending masculinity in the nature of God. Hypnotists often find that, whereas women are better at taking pro-active action when things just aren't right, men just internalise it. The consequence is often isolation and the lack of any support groups. Their confidence could be undermined by shortcomings in stature, health, fitness or finance — there's a host of potential worries to suppress. Adam Cox provides a range of role models to show that, whatever their circumstances, men can re-connect just as they are: no need to be assailed by insecurity. And it could be helpful if/when that insecurity leads to a mis-placed yearning for male headship.
